* Update on National Scholarships

In November 2013, The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) announced that the Government allocation for the National Scholarship Programme (NSP) will be reduced from £150 million to £50 million for 2014-15.  Although the Government allocation was reduced, the rules of the programme remain largely the same, but with two important exceptions:

1.The minimum award was changed from £3,000 to £2,000.

2.The limit to the amount of funding which can be awarded as cash was removed (formerly £1,000 pro-rata).

After careful consideration, Royal Holloway concluded that the best way to minimise the impact of the cut would be to make a reduction of £500 per student, so that the award is now £2,500 in year one rather than £3,000, but to make available the whole of the award in cash, which we know is the preferred option to our students, as it offers the most immediate financial relief.
