Your future career

Your future career

A degree in Mathematics can lead you to a wealth of fulfilling career paths, or opportunities for further study.

We take the employability of our graduates very seriously, and employability is embedded throughout the curriculum, in all 3 years of the BSc to help you to develop the maths skillset that employers seek. As well as key skills development and careers advice, we provide CV workshops, Python programming classes and networking opportunities.

There is also excellent support through the Careers Service. They hold regular sessions, from completing application forms and preparing for an interview, to summer internships, vacation employment and the careers available to you on graduation.

Making your degree count

Our degrees are accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA). Accreditation is one way of showing employers you have the knowledge and skills that they are looking for.

A degree in Mathematics will develop valuable skills that are sought after in many areas of industry, finance and government. Mathematics graduates are in great demand because they are logical, numerate, have careful analytical skills, and are confident in problem solving, handling formulae or large data sets.

Mathematics is a central tool in various sciences and disciplines such as finance, economics, management and IT, leading to well paid jobs. See for example the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications for an excellent overview.

We have also signed up to the Code of Practice of the London Mathematical Society's Teaching Mathematics as a Career (TeMaC) initiative, which aims to support Mathematics departments that help students to explore pathways into the teaching profession.

Due to the flexible nature of our degree programmes, our graduates have begun professional jobs that span a wide range of careers including:
