Frequently asked questions

Here you can find answers to the questions we are most commonly asked about our archives and special collections.

  • We’re on the lower ground floor of the Davison building. See our campus map.
  • If you’d like to speak to the Archivist, please call or email in advance.
  • To book our reading room, see information on using the archives.
  • Copies of documents can be ordered through us for a fee, but only if they are not too fragile, bound volumes, or too large for our photocopier or scanner.
  • If you let us know in advance, you may use your own digital camera/phone to take pictures of documents that we cannot copy for you (i.e. if they are bound volumes or above A3 size for photocopying, or A4 for digital scanning).
  • Copies must always be cited with their reference numbers and acknowledgement made to RHUL Archives.
  • You can find out more information about copying documents here.
  • We can answer brief enquiries (about 30 minutes’ research time)  by phone or email.
  • For more in-depth research, you’ll need to pay us to do further research (you can pay via our online shop) or contact a freelance researcher.

Please contact us to discuss whether the records are suitable for donation. Due to limited space, we cannot accept: duplicates or publications etc that we already have

  • We do not have a budget for purchasing records.
