Offers and decisions

Once your application has been received by Royal Holloway, it is processed by the Admissions team who will liaise with the Course Directors for your chosen degree programme. They’ll check your application and assess the suitability of your qualifications.

We aim to make a decision on postgraduate applications within four to six weeks after receiving it. Check the status of your application on your Applicant Portal.

Understanding your offer

You’ll be able to see when a decision has been made on your application using your Applicant Portal. Once a decision has been made, you’ll receive an offer letter from us (via email). This will include details of any specific conditions of your offer.

Conditional offers

Offers are usually conditional upon your final grades. If you accept your offer and meet all the conditions stated, your place on the course is guaranteed.

English language conditions

If English isn't your first language and you haven’t yet taken a recognised English language test, it is likely a condition of your offer will relate to your language skills.

When you've already taken an English language test but haven’t quite reached the required marks, you may be eligible to apply for an English language pre-sessional programme, meaning you won’t have to retake a test.

Declining your offer

To help us keep track of the number of available places on a course, we’d appreciate it if you told us you won’t be accepting your offer as soon as possible. You can do this using your Applicant Portal

Deferring your offer to the next academic year

If your plans to study at Royal Holloway change, and you would like to defer your offer to the next academic year, you should contact the Admissions team

We will then liaise with the department on your behalf. Although this is not usually a problem, offers are made based upon predicted student numbers, so it may not always be possible. You will be notified once we have received a decision from the department.
