National Student Survey 2021

Outstanding student satisfaction confirmed in National Student Survey 2021

  • Date23 July 2021

The National Student Survey (NSS) 2021 results confirm once again the outstanding level of satisfaction with teaching and overall experience among students in the Department of Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London.

NSS2021

We are delighted to see high scores across our undergraduate degree portfolio, including 93% overall satisfaction for BSc Geography and 87% for BA Geography. The NSS 2021 results maintain our remarkable record of positive student assessment year on year since the NSS evaluation process began in 2007, retaining our place among the top departments nationally. Notably, the Department of Geography pairs outstanding student satisfaction with research excellence, having also been ranked 2nd in the UK’s most recent national ‘research excellence framework’.*

Head of Geography, Professor Philip Crang, commented: “At Royal Holloway we look to combine great teaching and learning with world-leading research, within a friendly and supportive intellectual community. These NSS results are testament to that special combination.”

The NSS is an annual, independent survey of final year students carried out by the Office for Students on behalf of the UK higher education funding and regulatory bodies. The results were published in July 2021, and they reflect the responses to survey questions covering teaching on the course, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, learning community, student voice and students' union.
