Campus tours

If you are thinking about studying at Royal Holloway and are unable to attend one of our Open Days, you may like to visit us for a tour around our beautiful campus.

We run both guided and self-led campus tours. Guided tours are led by one of our current Student Ambassadors who will be happy to answer questions about the College and share their own personal experience of studying at Royal Holloway. Alternatively you can book a self-led tour, giving you the flexibility to explore our campus at a time that is convenient for you.

Guided campus tours last around one hour and usually take place on a Wednesday. We will show you as many of our facilities as possible, including our Halls of Residence, libraries and social spaces. It is not always possible to take tour groups inside student accommodation due to availability, although we will do our best to make this happen.

One of our Student Ambassadors will show you around the College.
Independently explore the campus using one of our suggested routes.

If you are unable to attend on a Wednesday, we will attempt to arrange a guided campus tour on a date that is convenient for you. If this isn't possible, you can book a self-led tour any time between 9am and 5pm. You can collect a self-led tour booklet, map and prospectus from Founder’s reception and follow the suggested route.

Please note that campus tours are not department or subject specific. If you would like the opportunity to meet a member of staff from your chosen department we would recommend that you attend an Open Day. If you receive an offer to study at Royal Holloway you will be invited to attend an Applicant Visit Day, which provides a further opportunity to visit the campus and meet staff and students.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between a self-led and a guided tour?

Guided tours are those led by one of our Student Ambassadors, who will show you around the campus and answer any questions that you may have. Self-led tours allow you to explore our campus independently, with the help of one of our specially designed self-led tour booklets.

At the time of booking, we will confirm whether the tour you have booked is guided or self-led.

Why do I need to book a self-led campus tour?

Booking a self-led tour is required so that:

  • We can provide you with relevant information prior to your visit
  • We can communicate to you whether there are any events taking place on the day of your visit which you might like to attend
  • The correct materials are ready for your arrival
  • We know which guests to expect on campus that are not current students, staff or academics

Where should I meet for the campus tour?

The campus tour meeting point is the Founder's Building main reception. If you are taking a self-led tour, the member of staff at reception will provide you with a copy of the prospectus and a booklet designed to help you navigate your way around the campus. If your tour is guided, one of our Student Ambassadors will be waiting to greet you in the reception waiting area.

Can I bring guests with me on the day?

There is no limit on how many guests can accompany you for your visit, but we do ask that you let us know how many guests you will be bringing.

Where is Royal Holloway's campus located?

For information about our location and travelling to the campus, please visit this page of our website.

Will I get the opportunity to view student accommodation?

If you are booked on to one of our guided tours at 2pm on a Wednesday then you will be able to view a room in one of our Halls of Residence.  If you are booked on to a self-led tour, or a guided tour at an alternative time, then unfortunately we are unable to offer the opportunity for you to view inside our student accommodation. We do, however, provide images and videos from inside our Halls of Residence on the Student Accommodation webpages

What happens if I'm running late on the day of my visit?

If you are going to be late for your allotted campus tour start time, please call us on +44 (0)1784 414112.

Please note that if you are booked on to a guided tour and will be more than 20 minutes late, we may have to change your booking to a self-led tour.

If I need to rearrange or cancel my visit, who do I contact?

To rearrange or cancel your visit, we ask that you contact us with as much notice as possible. Please telephone us on +44 (0)1784 414112 or email campus-tours@royalholloway.ac.uk with details of the date your current tour is booked for and the date that you would like to rearrange your tour for.

Can I park on campus?

It is free to park on campus for the duration of your visit. We are, however, required to assign you a parking permit for the day, so please complete the vehicle registration form at least two days prior to your visit if you are driving to campus. The parking permit will be issued to you automatically, so you do not need to display a permit in your vehicle.

If you are yet to find out the details of the vehicle that you will be driving to campus, please report to Founder's main security office (opposite Founder's reception) on arrival to register for a permit.

When you arrive on campus, we recommend that you park in either car park 4 or 12. Please note that we cannot guarantee a parking space on the day of your visit.
