Dr Christine Davies looks back at an amazing teaching career.

Christine Davies

For more than 50 years Dr Christine Davies taught mathematics at Royal Holloway, University of London. She is such an inspiring and enthusiastic lecturer that the Department asked her to continue teaching the fluid dynamics courses after her retirement in 2009. Initially, she continued with the three third- and fourth-year courses but, in more recent years, gave just Dynamics of Real Fluids. The changes due to Covid 19 mean that it is not feasible to continue next academic year in the same way but the department will find a way to keep benefitting from Christine Davies’ experience and knowledge and to show our appreciation.

Christine Davies comments: It will be strange to let go. I came to Royal Holloway in October 1968, nearly 52 years ago. It is a very different place now, of course, but I have continued to enjoy the interaction with students and colleagues. And it is hard to switch off my teacher's brain - I find myself thinking of how I would tackle the different aspects of what is proposed.

I have been hugely impressed with the way in which the Department (and some staff in particular) have responded to the Covid situation.
