The latest front cover article of the magazine The Resolver published an interview with several experts in the field of arbitration, including Dr. Leonardo Valladares Pacheco de Oliveira (RHUL, Department of Law and Criminology). In this cover article, the experts were asked to give their opinion on whether the recent changes to dispute resolution mechanisms in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic had positively or negatively impacted access to justice in the area.

Dr. de Oliveira made reference to the book he recently co-authored and published, titled Access to Justice in Arbitration: Concept, context and Practice (Wolters Kluwer, 2020). In both the book and the article, Dr. de Oliveira observes that dispute resolution mechanisms work better when parties have similar bargaining powers and are large corporations, with extensive knowledge of how the system works. However, Dr. de Oliveira suggests that more should be done to address cases, in which parties do not share a similar background or knowledge of the procedure, such as in proceedings between "John Doe v Coca-Cola".
