With its theme: ‘Looking forward: change, challenge and opportunity’, the London International Disputes Week 2021 (LIDW21) to be held between 10-14 May 2021 will provide crucial insights on the business and law of international dispute resolution.

LIDW21 builds on the success of its inaugural year in 2019. LIDW strives to be forward-thinking and inclusive, demonstrating legal London’s commitment to diversity. London holds international appeal as a global centre for dispute resolution – whether through its courts or by arbitration, mediation, expert determination or negotiation – built upon a rich tradition of English law dating back to the Magna Carta.

The highlight of the official LIDW21 agenda is a virtual conference encompassing 16 sessions delivered by leading experts in their fields, 4 unmissable keynote addresses by high-profile dispute resolution figures, and many opportunities to network with colleagues from around the world. The LIDW21 conference programme will be complemented by a number of official LIDW Member-hosted events on a wide range of topics spanning different sectors and forms of dispute resolution.

LIDW21 comes at a significant period for the UK legal sector, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, post-Brexit and amid an uncertain global political environment. The programme for 2021 will draw on current global issues facing the commercial sector. Themes include: the role of London in a decentralised world, cross-border insolvency issues, digital advocacy, social and environmental responsibility and issues, the mental health challenges faced in the legal profession and the role of technology.

Using London’s position as a major international seat for the dispute resolution business, LIDW21 will engage with international perspectives across all sectors and explore how the industry can adapt, evolve and progress.

In the panel on: ‘The impact of Brexit: challenges in cross-border restructurings and insolvencies’, Dr. Vaccari and other key speakers from the profession will explore the extent to which the unilateral withdrawal from mutual recognition mechanisms such as the European Regulation on insolvency proceedings (recast) no. 2015/848 has affected and is likely to affect the role of London as an international restructuring and insolvency hub.
