Tennant Exhibition - Best 1st yr student
Awarded annually to the undergraduate student who obtains the best results based on work done during the first year of study. Founded at King's College London in 1881 under the will of James Tennant, Professor of Mineralogy from 1853 to 1869.
Tennant Medal - Best final yr student
Awarded annually to the undergraduate student who has studied full-time for at least three years in the Department and has most distinguished himself/herself in the final year of study. Founded at King's College London in 1881 under the will of James Tennant, Professor of Mineralogy from 1853 to 1869.
Driver Prizes - 1st & 2nd yr - meritorious work
Awarded annually for meritorious work done as part of the course or on the result of such other special test as the Department may decide. Named after Jane Driver, the wife of Thomas Holloway who founded the Royal Holloway College.
Mary Isabella Webb Prizes - Best 1st & 2nd yr fieldwork report
Awarded annually to an undergraduate student for the best report on a geological field course. Endowed by a legacy from Miss Rebecca Langford Webb, a student of Bedford College in 1880, in memory of her sister, who was a student in 1879.
Harry & Kate Harper Chelsea Prize - Best 2nd yr student
Awarded annually to the most promising undergraduate student in the second year of study. In memory of Harry Harper, Secretary of Chelsea College from 1895 to 1938, and his wife Kate.
William Smith Essay Prize Stratigraphy
Awarded annually to the undergraduate student (in any year of study of a geology degree) judged to have written the best essay on a subject within the general area of stratigraphy. Founded at Chelsea College in 1978 on the retirement of Dr W E Smith by a subscription from his friends and colleagues. Dr Smith was Head of the Geology Department from 1956 to 1975.
Fleet Memorial Chelsea PrizeBest fieldwork (mapping)
Awarded annually to the undergraduate student graduating with the best performance in geological fieldwork. Founded at Chelsea College in 1957 from a subscription from friends and colleagues in memory of Dr William Fleet, Head of the Geology Department from 1934 to 1956.
Frank Barker Prizes - Most improvement from previous year
Awarded annually to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students demonstrating the biggest improvement from the previous year of study.Set up in 2011 in memory of Frank Barker, an oil-industry geologist with a strong interest in education. This award is provided by his widow, Professor Amina Memon from the Psychology Department.
