About us

The Department of Politics and International Relations is an established centre of teaching and research excellence.

General information

The study of politics and international relations at Royal Holloway dates back more than a hundred years, to the first lectures on the history of political ideas and “modern constitutions”.

Times have changed since then, and we’ve changed with them. In 2019 we moved to the newly refurbished McCrea Building, which benefits from a student library and greater shared space for PGT researchers

Our teaching and research is dynamic and global in its scope and impact.

The students we teach – from our first year undergraduates to our doctoral students – are a talented and diverse group. In 2017/18 alone, our students came from over sixty different countries.

Our research also spans continents, covering particular areas of the world, particular problems of public policy, and how we learn about the political world around us, alongside more traditional aspects of the study of politics like the study of democracy and elections and political ideas.

On these pages, you can learn more about the programmes that we provide, and the research that we carry out.

If you want to keep in touch with us more generally, make sure to follow us on Twitter or on Facebook.

If you’ve got particular questions, please call or email using the contact information given below.
