Kirsty Nelson - Biological Sciences
Degree programme: Biological Sciences
Year of study: Second
Why did you choose to study your course?
I chose Biology because of its breadth and diversity and complete fascination of the subject. My course consists of lectures, practicals and tutorials, which link together to further my understanding of the topic. So far, I have enjoyed my subject and look forward to the next few years of study.
What do you enjoy most about Biological Sciences?
Lectures have become interactive with the use of clickers. Rather than just sitting and making notes, we are able to respond and it makes a much more dynamic learning environment.
What is your favourite thing about being a student at Royal Holloway?
I moved everything into my flat with the help of student volunteers and settled in quickly. Being on campus has given me the opportunity to get involved with anything happening and everything is just a short walk from my room.
What is the student life like?
I joined women’s football without hesitation. But its more than just sport, it’s very sociable with lots of volunteering opportunities too which is fantastic! I would advise anyone to join a sports club. It’s the best thing I've done at university!
How are your degree and extracurricular activities preparing you for life after university?
As a student ambassador, I am able to represent the university in a number of ways. Apart from money, it enables me to build my confidence and communication skills which will be useful after university.
