Emily Harris - English

Degree programme: BA Englishemilyharrisphoto

Year of study: First

Why did you choose to study at Royal Holloway?

I chose to study at Royal Holloway because I had a good gut instinct about the university which has proved to be more than accurate. Practical reasons, such as Royal Holloway being one of the best UK universities for my course, and as a campus relatively close to London, also helped me make my decision to study here.

What do you enjoy most about studying English?

I love my course as it has enabled me to pursue what I like to do; reading and writing. However, it has also enabled me to develop the way I think about the content of my course which, in turn, has affected the way I think about everyday situations.

What is your favourite thing about being a student at Royal Holloway?

One of my favourite things about being a student at Royal Holloway is the vast amount of opportunities I have had, and amazing people I have met, as a result of taking part in societies such as the Christian Union and many other social events. Having part-time jobs, such as being a Student Ambassador for the College and Photographer for the Students’ Union, has allowed me to pursue interests I have outside of my degree, as well as providing me with valuable life experiences I otherwise may not have gained if I did not go to university.

What is the student life really like?

I believe student life is what you make it. If you want to do well, meet new people, and try new things, then you will have the best time. I would encourage anyone to go to university to be given a glimpse of the real world in a protected environment. I have had the most brilliant first year at Royal Holloway, and I look forward to the next two years I will be a student here.
