ROS outcome categories

Along with other UK university Pure users, the College has decided it will be more efficient to use Pure to extract data for bulk upload into the RCUK Research Outcome System (ROS) rather than requiring our academics to supply this information to ROS by individually logging on to the ROS system and essentially entering the same or similar information twice.

ROS has nine different categories of outcomes information, comprising both narrative and data. Most of these directly match categories within Pure, albeit with different category labels. The table below lists the ROS categories and their Pure equivalents.

In the first instance, AHRC, BBSRC, ESRC and EPSRC grant holders should make the relationship links in Pure between their grants and grant outcome information and data already in Pure – detailed instructions on creating relationship links can be found here.

In addition, grant holders should add additional outcome information using the Pure categories listed below and create the necessary relationship links between them and their grants. This new information and their relationship links will then be added to ROS in future bulk uploads.

Matching ROS and Pure categories

Select the appropriate option from the Pure non-publication categories in Research Outputs

Select Research, Consultancy or Other from either Funded or Non-Funded Projects

Select the appropriate option from the "Public engagement, outreach and knowledge exchange" category

Select Economic Impacts within the Pure Impacts category

Select the appropriate option in Awards within Activity

No comparable Pure category

More information supplied in due course

Further funding

Select the appropriate option within the Pure Application/Funding category

Select the appropriate options within Pure Impacts. Note much of the terminology in the section is very similar to the REF Impact Case Studies. However, information here does not constitute a REF Impact Study.

ROS also requires grant holders to supply a brief summary of the Key Findings arising from their research. At the moment, we have no comparable Pure field that could match this. We will provide an update on this in due course.
