Department of Psychology wins Athena SWAN Silver Award

Posted on 25/04/2013

The Athena SWAN Awards recognise success in developing employment practices to further and support the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) departments in higher education.

We are pleased to announce that the Department of Psychology has just been awarded a silver department award - these awards recognise that in addition to institution-wide policies the department has a significant record of activity and achievement and has identified particular challenges, has implemented activities and can demonstrate their impact so far.

Dr Courtenay Norbury who put together the department's application for the award commented: "What it means is recognition that the Department is working hard to support and celebrate the achievements of women in Psychology. We have created a Department in which both men and women thrive and we are doing our utmost to create an environment in which academic success is obtainable along with a good work-life balance."
