Dr Michael Williams warns Salmond of separate Scotland defence budget

Posted on 18/09/2012

Dr Michael Williams, from the Department of Politics and International Relations, has sent a stark warning to Alex Salmond to be more honest with the public about the paltry defence budget that a separate Scotland would have.

Dr Williams is interviewed in today's (18 September 2012) Daily Telegraph warning that an independent Scotland would be among Europe's smallest defence spenders but would still have to find "significant start-up costs" for a replacement Ministry of Defence and intelligence services.

He calls for the First Minister to provide detailed plans for a separate Scotland and how its defence would be funded in a report submitted to the Governent inquiry committee investigating the implications of Scottish independence.
