International network to study cultural exchange in Baroque music

Posted on 16/08/2012

Dr Stephen Rose

Dr Stephen Rose at Royal Holloway’s Music Department is a partner in a new research network studying Musical-Cultural Exchange in Early Modern Europe, 1550–1750. The network, funded by the Swedish Foundation for International Co-Operation in Research and Higher Education, will investigate how music travelled between different European cultures via processes of translation, appropriation and hybridisation. It will also offer training opportunities for postgraduates.

The other network partners are Dr Lars Berglund at the Musicology Department of Uppsala University and Dr Peter Wollny at the Bach-Archiv Leipzig.

The network will organise workshops rotating between the three institutions, and it will fund exchange placements for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. For more information on the network, contact Stephen Rose.
