MA2022 Creative Sound Design

Tutor: Rhys Davies

Teaching: To be confirmed

Value: 1 unit

Availability: Autumn/Spring

The course consists of a series of lectures, workshops and tutorials, which will run throughout the Autumn Term. Students will learn how to use the proprietary sound design software and then apply those operational skills creatively in project based work. The lectures and workshops will include working to a brief; single microphone location recording for documentary; multiple sound source location recording and live mixing for drama. In the post-production lectures and workshops, students will be required to design sound that evokes both exterior physical location and the interior emotional landscape of theme or character, through the employment of diagetic (signal), non-diagetic (keynote) and ambisonic (archetypal) sound types. The end of Autumn Term project will require students to design a sceneographic composition entitled ‘Beyond The (visual) Frame’ In the Spring Term, students will concentrate on their assessed project work, combined with a series of revision workshops and lectures given by the course co-ordinator and professional practitioners (NETS).
