MA1007 Media Practice

This unit will cover the acquisition and use of an audio-visual language, the provision of technical expertise and an examination of the relationship of specific contents to relevant technical forms. Areas explored will include the creation of meaning through images and sounds, the development of an audio-visual vocabulary, the cultural, social and artistic context implicit in audio-visual language use, the specifics of an audio-visual language, the relationship between context and form and the question of authorship. 

Media Options will also be introduced. The objective of this course is to provide an overview of these specific areas, an awareness of their relationship to each other and sufficient background knowledge to enable an informed choice in Year 2.

Students will participate in a multi-camera studio based dramatic exercise where they will be assessed on their creative decision-making and presentation.  


Students must attend at least 70% of the course in each term. Students will produce and submit a written directorial exercise, a short video, a TV studio exercise, an interactive project and a production paper.
