Dr Gül Berna Özcan was one of three speakers at an on-the-record media breakfast briefing at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars yesterday. This briefing offered an in-depth look into the current affairs in Turkey and the goals of President Obama's forthcoming visit. Dr Özcan is a Senior Lecturer in Corporate Governance and International Business at the School of Management, and currently holds a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship.

The briefing included a discussion on the significant changes and thoughts on what the Obama administration hopes to achieve through a strengthened relationship with Turkey. Speakers also addressed how these objectives are complicated by the war in Iraq and the strong US support for Israel as well as problems that have developed in Turkey's accession negotiations with the European Union. Each of the speakers gave brief remarks followed by a question and answer session.
