Professor Chris Hackley from the School of Management commented on ‘Return on investment’ with regard to the academic study of marketing. Marketing is an area that doesn't seem to have a core and this makes it a fascinating subject to study. There are no universally agreed set of core frameworks,strategies or plans and marketing is a subject that interacts with every discipline.
Is marketing a proper subject? Professor Hackley says ‘I believe in education as a force that can change lives, develop personalities and nurture good judgement. Grand as this might sound, I think studying management, business, marketing or indeed any other subject can support these aims, provided that the course is challenging and intellectually engaging’.
Professor Hackley is currently writing a book entitled 'Marketing in Context'.
