Return on investment - Marketing

Posted on 18/02/2013
Professor Chris Hackley

Professor Chris Hackley from the School of Management commented on ‘Return on investment’ with regard to the academic study of marketing. Marketing is an area that doesn't seem to have a core and this makes it a fascinating subject to study. There are no universally agreed set of core frameworks, strategies or plans and marketing is a subject that interacts with every discipline.

Is marketing a proper subject? Professor Hackley says ‘I believe in education as a force that can change lives, develop personalities and nurture good judgement. Grand as this might sound, I think studying management, business, marketing or indeed any other subject can support these aims, provided that the course is challenging and intellectually engaging’.

Professor Hackley is currently writing a book entitled 'Marketing in Context'.
