Tim Watkins explained the rapid growth of Huawei in the telecommunications industry, and gave insights into how China has established enterprises now making such an impact on world business. As well as being a privately-owned firm, Huawei stands out for two other reasons: unusually for a Chinese multinational, it has broken into the developed markets of Europe, and it is a recognised world leader in key technologies. He revealed too that, from next year, Huawei's language of business would be English, a statement of its intention to be a global company. Huawei Technologies is the first of the 'new' Chinese multinationals, which are changing the shape of the international economy.
