Why did you want to study in the UK?

For the once-in-a-life time study experience. I got to enjoy a different culture, meet more friends from other countries, and to learn about different ways of thinking. Compared with my high-school classmates studying in China, I was able to immerse myself in the English language, as well as looking forward to taking advantage of the greatly improved job prospects available to me after completing my studies.

Why did you choose to study International Accounting?

To get a broad range of knowledge about international accounting standards. International Accounting opens doors in every kind of business. It can give you the foundation you need to go on and become a qualified accountant. It can prepare you to become a partner in an accounting firm, to pursue a career in finance or corporate management, to work in government, or even to become an entrepreneur. In fact, I think no matter what you decide to go onto to, having an accounting background can open doors wide.

Can you tell us about your Royal Holloway experience?

I usually went to the School for taught courses three days per week, and the other two days I studied in my room or the library to prepare essay research or to write coursework. I took a break from studying over the weekends. My friends and I went to London for a sight-seeing tour, or played football on the grass field on campus. We also went to Medicine [student bar] and met up with other friends as well.

What was your favourite aspect of the course?

My favourite aspect of the course would be the tutors who taught me. They are all experts in accounting specialisms. The experiences that they shared with us were really valuable and I feel like I learnt a lot.

Have your studies helped you in your career?

Yes, my studies helped me in my career indeed. The lessons I’ve learned from my studies in Royal Holloway helped me to understand financial reports more quickly.

Tell us about your current role at Deloitte.

I’m working at Deloitte Beijing branch as an auditor in Group 1 in the audit department. Most of our clients are companies listed in the US stock exchange. My main job is auditing those companies’ financial reports to ensure they are reflecting a true and fair view about the companies’ financial situation. We issue audited reports for those companies, which allow shareholders and any potential investors to gain a better understanding about the business processes and financial status of those companies.

Do you have any tips for current students looking to get into business?

You should choose something that you really interested in to work for. Whilst you are still studying in school, try to study hard, do more reading, and participate in the job affairs whenever possible. Before you choose the business you want to get in to, do more research about it; the research should include history about the business, top companies in the industry, the growth prospects about the business etc. Job satisfaction is the priority when you are considering get into business.
