Supporting research and enterprise

Research and Enterprise provides support to our academic colleagues to help them identify and secure funding for their research and help make their expertise and intellectual property available to non-academic end users. This area of the website explains the services we provide, offers some initial advice and guidance for processes and specialist terminology with which you might not yet be familiar and provides access to a range of resources. We are keen to improve the service we offer and welcome feedback and encourage you to contact us at any time.

Research and Enterprise is organised into two teams:

Research and Business Development

Martin Kelly| heads a team of Research and Business Development Managers (RBDMs) which provides pro-active support to help academic departments to enhance and diversify the sources of their research and commercial income from grants, consultancy, licensing, industrial/commercial research sponsorship and spin outs.

Academics should contact their RBDM to discuss any aspect of developing research or commercial income – we particularly encourage early career academics to contact their RBDM, who will also be able to arrange for any appropriate operational support, such as detailed grant application guidance, costing, intellectual property and contract advice and services.

The Research and Business Development team also works closely with commercial partners, investors and other parties interested in licensing intellectual property or commissioning consultancy or research

Research Services

The Research Services team is headed by Craig Bryce| and provides operational grant application support, guidance, costing as well as intellectual property and contracts advice and services.

Research Services also manages our main research systems, PURE| (our research information system), pFACT |(our research costing and authorisation system) and Research Professional| (our online research funding information service). Research Services are also managing the administrative support for the new Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Contact details are available on the Research and Enterprise contacts page|.
