We talk with Sue Geddes, Performance Manager, Department of Music
What exactly do you do at Royal Holloway?
My job in music involves lots of different things but mainly I organise concerts and music lessons for students. I am also Administrator for the Humanities and Arts Research Centre (HARC).
How long have you worked here?
3 ½ years
What did you do before joining the College?
I worked in the music department at Farnborough Sixth Form College
Where were you born?
In Edgware (top of the Northern Line) and was brought up in Mill Hill, north London
Where do you live?
I live in Frimley with husband Huw, and children Robin and Zoe along with 3 cats. Robin is reading Classics at St John’s, Oxford and Zoe is studying for A levels.
What do you do to unwind?
Don’t get dressed, the Saturday Independent crossword, American box sets, golf (in fair weather), adding to the pile of books beside my bed and sometimes reading them!
Who is your hero – and why?
Anyone who campaigns for animal rights. No explanation necessary!
Where are you happiest?
Stepping on the scales when I’ve lost weight.
What is your favourite film?
Doctor Zhivago or The English Patient – tragic romance with a sweeping vista.
What is your favourite motto in life – and why?
A clean house is a wasted life. I live in fear of the unexpected visitor!
What’s the best part of your job here?
Being able to watch our talented students performing in concerts and recitals.
