We were recently ranked in the top ten English departments in the country for graduate career prospects.*
We take your future employablity very seriously, and our English graduates are equipped with the wide knowledge and practical skills required to enter an extremely competitive job market.
A degree in English trains the mind and feeds the imagination; it provides a range of transferable skills, including oral and written presentation skills, time management, and the ability to work independently, which are valued by employers. It also leaves your options open. Our graduates find jobs in fields from accountancy and banking to law, the media and the theatre. Many go on to further degrees in literature and other fields.
87% of our most recent graduates (KIS 2013) were working or undertaking further study, six months after graduation. They are working for BT, Opera North, the Ministry of Justice, Lutterworth Press, DAS Omnicom, Hachette UK, Goldman Sachs and Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi, among other organisations.
Some examples of the jobs they are doing are listed on the right.
See the graduate profiles page for more detailed accounts of how gaining an English degree at Royal Holloway helped shape the future careers of some of our students, and have a look at the Creative Writing Student Successes for a list of MA Creative Writing students who have gone on to critical success; from publishing novels and collections of poetry, to nominations and winning recognised literary awards.
