The Economics Department is pleased to welcome Professor Michael Spagat as the new Head of Department. Professor Spagat has a PhD in Economics from Harvard and a BA in Economics and Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences from Northwestern. He has held research/teaching posts at the University of Illinois, Brown University, the New Economic School in Moscow, and the Institute of Economics of the Academia Sinica. He is a research fellow of the CEPR, the Davidson Institute and the Households in Conflict Network and his research interests lie in armed conflict.
On his appointment as the Head of Department, Professor Spagat said: "I am delighted to be taking on the role as the Head of Department, and look forward to working alongside students and academics to take our department’s success further.”
Professor Spagat takes over as Head of Department from Professor Jeff Frank, who has successfully held the post for the past three years. The department would like to congratulate and welcome Professor Spagat on his new post.
