non zero one return to Royal Holloway to inspire new generation of students

Award-winning theatre company non zero one is returning to Royal Holloway, University of London as “Resident Theatre Company” to teach undergraduate students, three years after graduating from the Department of Drama and Theatre.

non zero one shot to fame after taking their final year production, would like to meet, to the Southwark Playhouse and the Barbican as part of bite10 (Barbican International Theatre Events). They have since presented work at the National Theatre, Bush Theatre, Tate Britain, The Junction and Latitude Festival, and are an affiliate company of the National Theatre Studio.

The company’s innovative style of interactive performances, which enable participants to have both shared and personal experiences, has been hailed as “groundbreaking” and “unequalled by anything else” and now the company – Sarah Butcher, Iván González, Cat Harrison, John Hunter, Fran Miller and Alex Turner – will share their experience with students in the Drama and Theatre Department at Royal Holloway, University of London.

They will be teaching on three undergraduate Drama and Theatre courses: Theatre & Performance Making, Performance Research Project and Final Year Project, in which they will share and explore approaches to devising interactive performance. Students will also get the opportunity to experience non zero one performances and development of new work as part of the year long residency.

Dan Rebellato, Head of the Department of Drama and Theatre, added: “non zero one are one of the most exciting new young theatre companies to appear in recent years and we’re immensely proud that they formed and made their first work at Royal Holloway. I couldn’t be more pleased that they’ve agreed to come back and inspire a new generation of students.”

non zero one received an Off West End award for Best Entertainment in 2011 for this is where we got to when you came in, the final production for the old Bush Theatre. They are an affiliate company of the National Theatre Studio and this summer devised you’ll see [me sailing in antarctica] for National Theatre Inside Out, which received an Off West End award nomination for the TBC Award.  non zero one return to the Barbican this autumn with the time out (from 23 October to 4 November), which was developed and toured in 2011 and supported by the Arts Council and The Basement, Brighton.
