Visits and events

At Royal Holloway

We also offer a number of opportunities for school groups to visit us on campus:

Visits to Royal Holloway by school groups

Visits to Royal Holloway by school groups

We can offer the opportunity for small groups of pupils to come with their teachers to visit the Classics department and Royal Holloway. There may also be the opportunity for pupils to sit in on some undergraduate lectures or classes, however this does depend on class and room size, and would naturally best suit those currently studying at post-GCSE level.

If you are interested in arranging this, please contact Dr Richard Hawley

‘CLASS’: Classics Advice and Support Scheme

Advice and Guidance for teachers

The Classics department also aims to offer dedicated teacher support and guidance, for both those trained in teaching our subject, and those who are teaching the classical world as an additional subject area.

To this end we are hoping to organise a themed one-day teachers’ conference, probably in June/July 2014. Details will be advertised widely within the classical community, once they have been finalised.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list for information about this event, please email Dr Richard Hawley

University of London Taster Day

In 2014 we will be running another of our popular University of London Taster Days, on the theme of Aspects of the Classical World, on Thursday 19 June, 10.30am-3.30pm.

The day will comprise a series of workshops on a variety of classical topics, run by teaching staff from the Classics department. There will also be the opportunity for a mini tour of the College, and to discuss university admissions expectations and application procedures.

For further information, and to register (from 11am on 9 January 2014), please see the University of London Taster Day website.

Classics Day

Royal Holloway's student-run Classical Society will be holding another of its exciting annual celebrations of classical culture in the world today, on Wednesday 5 March 2014.

Teachers and pupils are invited to join in the many varied activities on the day, aimed at a wide range of ages and backgrounds, which will be taking place across the Royal Holloway campus. No experience of any classical education is required, just an enthusiasm for all things classical!

If you would like to receive a copy of the programme, once it has been finalised, please contact Dr Richard Hawley

Royal Holloway Connect

The Classics department contributes fully to Royal Holloway’s partnership scheme for schools and colleges, Royal Holloway Connect.
