Professor of Plant Biochemistry, University of Exeter

Host Dr Alessandra Devoto

Vitamin C,hydrogen peroxide and photosynthesis

Leaves acclimatise to fluctuating light environments to optimise photosynthesis and avoid damage caused by absorption of light in excess of photosynthetic capacity.  The sensing and signalling mechanisms underlying acclimation are complex and not fully understood. This talk will consider the roles of vitamin C (ascorbate- the most abundant primary metabolite in Arabidopsis leaves) and photosynthetically-produced hydrogen peroxide in light acclimation.
