Anna Hemmings MBE
BSc (Econ) Economics & Management Studies, 2001 RHBNC and Honorary Fellow
Anna is the world's most successful female canoeist, having held 6 world marathon canoe championships and made two Olympic appearances. She retired as a professional sportswoman in 2009 and is now a Special Olympics Great Britain Ambassador. Anna was struck down with chronic fatigue syndrome in 2003 and was sidelined for two years, leaving her to question her future in a sport she first took up as an eight-year-old. She battled back to win marathon World Championship gold for the fourth time in 2005 and successfully defended her title twice more in 2006 and 2007.
