Visiting the Bedford Room

11 Bedford Square is the London base for Royal Holloway and Bedford New College. The eighteenth century building is in the same square where Bedford College was founded in 1849 and houses teaching rooms, offices for staff and a common room, The Bedford Room, which can be used by alumni of the College. We are extremely grateful for the generous support of the Bedford Society members who donated towards the renovation project.

Opening hours
Alumni are warmly invited to use the Bedford Room during room opening times - we hope that the room will prove popular with our alumni community.

Sometimes the Bedford room will have been pre-booked for a meeting or social event (especially in the evenings after 5pm), so it may be advisable to call in advance (0207 307 8600) to check that the room is free. If the room is in use, the reception staff will be able to advise you of other possible meeting places.

Bedford Room opening times
•    Monday to Friday: in term-time from 1pm until 9pm, and outside of term-time, 1pm until 7pm.
•    Saturdays: in term-time 10am until 6pm, and closed outside of term-time.
•    The building is not open on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

Term dates for 2017 are as follows:
•    Spring term: Monday 9 January to Friday 24 March
•    Summer term: Monday 24 April to Friday 9 June
•    Autumn term: Monday 18 September to Friday 8 December

Before visiting
Please ensure you are registered as a Bedford Society member. Most Bedford College alumni are already registered as Society members, but if you are unsure, please contact the Alumni Relations Team on 01784 414478.

As mentioned above, if possible, please call the reception on 0207 307 8600 to check if the room is available. On arrival at 11 Bedford Square, the receptionist will check your details and will ask you to sign in and then sign out when you leave.

Facilities
There are some lockers available downstairs in the building and locker keys will be provided on request by reception. A coin-operated coffee machine will be available and visitors are welcome to bring snacks to eat in the Bedford Room.

Capacity
The Bedford room holds 8-10 people seated in board room style, up to approximately 30 people for a standing reception.

Catering
There are two approved suppliers for catering at 11 Bedford Square: Waitrose Entertaining and Senate House. To order from Senate House, please call 020 7862 8127 or email conference@london.ac.uk. Their menus can be viewed on their website. For a cheaper alternative, alumni can use Waitrose Entertaining.

Bringing guests
Groups of Bedford College alumni are very welcome. We would encourage you to call reception in advance and mention if you are coming with a group of alumni. Bedford Society members are welcome to bring a limited number of non-Society members as a guest.

Access
There is wheelchair access to the ground floor of the building via a folding ramp and staff will be on hand to assist. Please ring the bell at the bottom of the steps for assistance. A disabled toilet is available on the ground floor.

Booking the Bedford Room for non-alumni meetings
If you wish to book the Bedford Room (or any other room within the building) for a meeting that is non-Bedford Society or non-College related, please email the Premises Manager or call 020 7307 8604 to find out about room booking fees and to check availability.

Feedback welcome
We welcome your feedback to ensure that these new arrangements are working happily for staff, students and alumni. It may be necessary to adapt the arrangements when we see how they work in practice.

And finally...
We very much hope that you will be able to make use of this special central London facility which welcomes Bedford College alumni back to Bloomsbury in the centre of London and which your generous donations have helped to create. Thank you.
