Professor Devoto was nominated by fellow plant biologists and recognised by the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB).

The ASPB Women in Plant Biology Committee asked members to nominate remarkable women, with the final list, which includes nominations for Early-Career and Mid-Career Researchers, published this month.

Professor Devoto was chosen for her achievements and leadership in the field in a list which celebrates current women plant biologists and hopes to inspire the next generation.

Professor Devoto has been at Royal Holloway since 2006 and has led on groundbreaking research into molecular pathways regulating how plants respond to environmental stressors, aiming to enhance plant yield and adaptation and to develop biotechnological applications.

She said: “I am extremely grateful for this recognition and truly humbled to be recognised alongside such extraordinary biologists. Research and Teaching are deeply rooted in my motivation to be a scientist and a lecturer; hence I am very proud about having been able to inspire others.”

A spokesperson for the ASPB added: “Professor Devoto’s tireless dedication to advancing plant stress biology and her unwavering commitment to nurturing the growth of young scientists have left an indelible mark.

“Like a sturdy oak, Professor Devoto stands tall, providing shade and shelter to those under her mentorship. Her legacy is not merely in research papers or accolades, but in the flourishing minds she has cultivated.”
