Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Academic Strategy, Planning and Resources appointed

Professor Mark Fellowes has been appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic Strategy, Planning and Resources and will take up his new position at Royal Holloway on 1 September.

Mark will join Royal Holloway from the University of Reading where he has been Pro-Vice Chancellor, Academic Resource and Planning since 2018.

At the University of Reading, Mark holds a large portfolio with overall responsibility for the leadership of the academic Schools, as well as Marketing, Communications and Engagement and Global Recruitment and Admissions.

He co-chairs Reading’s annual planning rounds, responsible for allocation of the university’s expenditure, and leads on the environmental sustainability strategy.

Mark is a zoologist whose research has recently focused on urban ecology and human-wildlife interactions.

He is also co-editor and author of four popular science books (30-second Evolution, Biology, Zoology, and Ecology) and is currently editing a book on tropical urban ecology.

His research includes pieces on BBC Autumnwatch, Springwatch, and Countryfile Diaries, with his work covered by BBC Wildlife, all major UK broadsheet newspapers, Scientific American, NBC News, the Huffington Post, Newsweek and the New York Times.

Mark said of his new appointment: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Royal Holloway.

“I’m looking forward to meeting new colleagues, taking on new challenges and being part of a university with such a strong sense of purpose.”
