Professor Ruth Livesey

Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation)

Ruth has served as Head of the Department of English since July 2020 and School EDI Lead and Deputy Executive Dean of Humanities since 2022.

Ruth joined the Department of English in 2002 and was promoted to Professor in 2017. Her research ranges across the literature and culture of the nineteenth century with an emphasis on the politics of place and mobility. Ruth has held many internal roles supporting the development of research cultures across Royal Holloway, including serving as Associate Dean of the Doctoral School and Director of Research, as well as making long-standing external contributions to the UKRI Future Leaders scheme and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
