English language & university preparation courses

The university preparation courses offered by the Centre for the Development of Academic Skills (CeDAS) aim to provide students with the skills to succeed in their undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses.

CeDAS staff have been offering English and academic preparation courses for over a decade. Students studying on the specialist on-campus courses enjoy high quality teaching and personal support from experienced staff.  Courses available include:

International Foundation Year

A 10 month programme for international students who need to develop their subject knowledge, academic English and study skills for undergraduate study in the UK.Find out more about the International Foundation Year

Pre-Masters Diploma for International Students

A 9 month programme for international students who need to develop academic English and study skills for postgraduate study in the UK. Find out more about the Pre-Masters Diploma.

Pre-Sessional English language Programme

This short programme (4, 8 or 12 weeks) is for international students who have a conditional offer to study at Royal Holloway and who are required to develop their academic English and study skills before the start of the academic year. Academic English Language Support 

Academic English courses and one-to-one writing tutorials offer extra English language support in a range of areas. Whether you need advice on academic writing, are confused by an area of grammar or simply need some tips on how to best to take notes during lectures, you should take a look at the various courses available to all non-native speakers of English.  Find out more about the Academic English language courses.

Contemporary Britain

The Contemporary Britain courses, offered with an Arts or Social Sciences specialisation, are designed for non-native speakers of English who are studying at Royal Holloway on an undergraduate study abroad programme.  As well as helping you improve your English language, it offers you an insight into how Britain became the country it is today. Find out more about Background to Modern Britain.
