Tell us about your career path since graduation. How did you end up where you are?

I began my career as a Wellbeing Ambassador at a girls’ school, where I supported students' emotional wellbeing. This role sparked my interest in broader student support and led me into the Higher Education sector, where I gained experience in various roles including programme support, student services, operations, and administration.

To deepen my understanding and broaden my career options, I undertook a Level 3 course in Counselling Skills, followed by a PG Certificate in Leading Teaching and Learning. During this time, I also reflected on the aspects of psychology I found most engaging during my BSc, which led me to pursue an MSc in Organisational and Occupational Psychology, during which I completed a short internship and secured a mentor in the field.

I’m now working as an Assistant Psychologist at a small consultancy, focusing on assessment design and business development. My path has evolved significantly from what I originally envisioned, but every step has helped shape a career I find genuinely fulfilling.

What was it about your time at Royal Holloway that has most benefitted your career or influenced your path since graduation?

The Occupational Psychology module I took as part of my degree was a pivotal moment - it planted the seed for my current career. Additionally, the support I received from my personal supervisor during my research project played a huge role in my academic and professional development. Being part of such a vibrant, intellectually stimulating environment really encouraged me to explore my interests and build confidence in my abilities.

What would you say to potential students considering studying at Royal Holloway?

Don’t rush to figure it all out. Use your time at university to explore your interests. Take a variety of modules, engage in placements or internships, and try out different roles. Every bit of experience helps you understand what you enjoy and where your strengths lie.

Remember to also enjoy the journey. University is as much about personal growth as it is about academic achievement.

What advice would you give to students thinking about a career in your sector?

If you're interested in a career in psychology, especially occupational or organisational pathways, gaining real-world experience is key, whether through internships, part-time work, or volunteering.

What did you love most about your time at Royal Holloway?

Everything! Royal Holloway will always hold a special place in my heart. The campus itself is stunning. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Egham, it’s like studying in a postcard. Beyond the scenery, the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and diverse. I made so many great memories, met inspiring people, and felt genuinely supported throughout my time there. It was a time of growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences.
