Meet Jazib, who studies MSci Physics
Why did you choose to study at Royal Holloway?
For a variety of reasons: the university had a very highly rated Physics course that I had only heard good things about, the university asked for reasonable grades, I could commute there easily and of course the campus is beautiful!
What has been the favourite part of the course so far?
I really enjoy studying Physics here because all of the teaching staff are so experienced in their field, it really does feel like you are learning from the best. I also think that the subject in general is so diverse and has a variety of content, which reflects in the career prospects I now have. Physics can open the door to so many pathways, some of them I hadn’t even heard of before.
How have you found the staff and the teaching on your course?
The staff may be my favourite thing about the course, their knowledge and willingness to help you grow as a scientist is very admirable. Being in a smaller department has the benefit of a very high staff to student ratio. The teaching on the course is generally really concise and well organised, you can tell that the professors and lecturers genuinely enjoy teaching.
What’s your experience of any university support services?
I have used the careers service and I have been impressed by the level of support available for free. I had some really beneficial one-to-one support on my CV and cover letters when applying to internships, and the support helps me feel less anxious about finding a job after I graduate.
How do you think Royal Holloway is helping prepare you for your future career?
My course includes an employability module that focuses entirely on employability skills (CV writing, LinkedIn, cover letters, Interview skills etc). Having an entire module on those skills has helped me gain tailored experience on applying to roles in my field.
Outside of your studies, what is your favourite thing about being part of Royal Holloway?
My favourite thing about Royal Holloway outside of studying has to be the community. You meet many people from different cultures and backgrounds here, but generally everyone is really friendly. This includes both students and staff members.
Can you sum up your Royal Holloway experience in 3 words?
Challenging, transformative and fun!
