Choosing to study a postgraduate degree at Royal Holloway Business School helped broaden Roy’s perspective beyond engineering, equipping him with the business and management skills needed to thrive professionally. Currently based in Dubai, he’s working on major infrastructure projects applying the knowledge and experience he gained during his time at Royal Holloway.

Tell us about your career path since graduation. How did you end up where you are?

Since graduating from Royal Holloway with my master’s I’ve returned to India, developing my career in engineering and project coordination and gaining experience in quality assurance and business operations.

I rejoined KEC International and am currently based in Dubai, working as an Assistant Manager – Engineering Services. My role involves working closely with clients, consultants and global OEMs, managing technical documentation, coordinating engineering, procurement support and project delivery for critical power infrastructure projects.

I look forward to continuing my career in international infrastructure and project management while remaining connected to the Royal Holloway alumni community.

What was it about your time at Royal Holloway that has most benefitted your career or influenced your path since graduation?

The most valuable aspect of my time at Royal Holloway was the opportunity to develop a broader perspective beyond engineering.

Studying Business & Management alongside students from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds strengthened my communication, cri tical thinking and problem-solving skills. The programme also deepened my understanding of project management, innovation and stakeholder engagement, which have become increasingly important in my current role.

Today, I work on international infrastructure projects where success depends not only on technical knowledge but also on effective collaboration with clients, consultants, contractors and global equipment manufacturers.

My experience at Royal Holloway gave me the confidence to work in multicultural environments and helped shape my transition into engineering roles that require both technical expertise and business awareness.

What would you say to potential students considering studying at Royal Holloway?

I would encourage prospective students to make the most of everything Royal Holloway has to offer, both inside and outside the classroom.

The university provides an excellent environment to learn from people with diverse backgrounds, develop practical skills and build lasting professional networks.

My advice is to step outside your comfort zone, take part in extracurricular activities, and embrace opportunities to work with people from different cultures and disciplines.

What advice would you give to students thinking about a career in your sector?

For those considering a career in engineering and infrastructure, remember that technical knowledge is only one part of the equation. Employers also value communication, teamwork, adaptability and the ability to solve problems in complex environments. Developing both your technical expertise and your business awareness will open up more opportunities and prepare you for leadership roles in an increasingly global industry.

What did you love most about your time at Royal Holloway? /

What I loved most about my time at Royal Holloway was the sense of community.

Although my course lasted only one year, I met people from different countries and backgrounds who made it a truly memorable experience.

What's your favourite memory of Royal Holloway?

My favourite memory is spending summer afternoons on campus with my flatmates, cooking together, enjoying a picnic, taking photos and simply appreciating the beautiful surroundings. I also spent many hours in the Davison Building and the library working on assignments, and I really enjoyed my weekly Ninjutsu sessions at the sports centre.

Those experiences gave me friendships, confidence and memories that I will always cherish, making Royal Holloway feel like a second home.
