American Dreams, American Nightmares: Rethinking US History

This day will compliment many topics students cover at A Level, but will also give a flavour of studying at university. It will feature an introductory lecture and Q&A on transitioning to university, a campus tour and several US history workshops.

Workshop options will include:

  • Jacksonian Democracy
  • Civil War and Emancipation
  • Great Depression
  • Civil Rights Movement and the Black Nationalist challenge
  • The Vietnam War
  • US-China Relations in the Cold War
  • The Reagan Presidency
  • Barack Obama and post-racial politics in the United States

Workshop sessions are designed to be interactive and students will have an opportunity to engage with various primary sources, alongside meeting experts in the field. Academics will also introduce relevant primary source archives and key historiographical developments. Students can attend two workshops of their choice.
