Exploiting Algae's Colourful Machines
Host: Dr Laurence Bindschedler
Algae often look slimy and sluggish, yet inside them they possess some of the largest, most efficient biomolecular machines known. Through billions of years of evolution, microalgae in particular have evolved to possess colourful proteins with highly fluorescent characteristics. But, how do they do this? My research group uses mass spectrometry to figure out how these colourful machines function within algae and investigates how these complexes could be exploited for use in biotechnology.
The seminar will be held on MS Teams and followed by the online 'meet the speaker' session intended particularly for early career researchers (UG and PG students, postdocs etc). If you are interested to chat informally to our guest about her career and research, please stay on with the same MS Teams session after the seminar, no separate registration for 'meet the speaker' session is required.
