Welcome to Modern Languages
We sit within the Department of English and Languages and have around 28 academic and teaching staff who teach on our Modern Languages degrees in French, German, Italian and Spanish.
We look after around 500 undergraduate students, and around 30 postgraduate students working towards Masters or PhD degrees.
We offer research-led teaching and supervision, reflecting our expertise across languages and disciplines. Recent books published by our scholars cover literary and screen studies, the history of art, gender and critical disability studies, critical theory and philosophy, and cultural history from the middle ages to the twenty-first century.
We are also home to the interdisciplinary Centre for Visual Cultures
