Tell us about your career path since graduation. How did you end up where you are?

I started as a TA - Teaching Assistant - at a primary school, then went on to teacher training. After finishing my ECT years - Early Careers Teacher - I became the KS3 – Key Stage 3 - coordinator for the Maths department. I’m now second in charge of the Maths department at the school where I teach.

What was it about your time at Royal Holloway that has most benefitted your career?

The depth of my degree has really helped my teaching. What I learnt helps me discuss different techniques with students, including the “why” in mathematical methods. Some of my lecturers inspired me to be like them - I try to make the content fun and exciting or at least interesting as I teach my students.

What would you say to potential students considering studying at Royal Holloway?

I loved every minute at Royal Holloway, not just the course, but the lectures, the lecturers, the new people I met and of course all the events.

What advice would you give to students thinking about a career in your sector?

If you want to get into teaching, definitely speak to a newly qualified teacher to see what the training year entails and what you need to do or need to prepare for to start your teaching career.

What's your favourite memory of Royal Holloway?

My favourite memory must be the summer balls or the nights out on Mondays and Wednesdays. I met some great people and had wonderful times at the events. My lectures were interesting, and I really enjoyed my second- and third-year content. I also felt a lot of support from the two lecturers who I saw weekly in my third year.
