Could you benefit from an injection of fresh thinking and specialist skills? By hosting a placement student, you can play a meaningful role in shaping a student’s future while also gaining new perspectives and talent for your organisation.

Each year, our dedicated Placements Team works closely with alumni and students to create high‑quality opportunities, from short experiences and mentoring to year‑long placements. These experiences help students develop key skills, build confidence, and become career‑ready graduates.

Short placements = 70-140hrs (either unpaid or university-funded if part of our Widening Participation programme)

Placement years = 9-12 months (paid)

A placement student can add valuable contribution to your business by applying their university learning to real world challenges, whether you have a dedicated project or general support in mind. If your organisation can offer experience that supports students’ professional development, we would love to hear from you. We are always keen to build new relationships with alumni and employers across all sectors and to create exciting opportunities for our students.

Get in touch at CareersPlacements@rhul.ac.uk to find out how you can get involved.

Hear from some of our previous alumni who have benefitted from supporting students:

“[Placements] give us the opportunity to have work completed that we do not usually have time to do… and gives staff a chance to gain experience supervising/managing… As Royal Holloway alumni, I also like to give back to the university.” - Alumni host on the Summer Skills Placement Programme

“For the student, the placement was a great opportunity for them to gain real marketing experience and allowed them to apply their academic knowledge. However, for us they have been a great asset to the team by contributing ideas in a collaborative working environment and also by supporting the team across all areas of marketing at such a pivotal year for the business.” - Alumni host on the Year-in-Business programme

"It is always nice to be able to mentor someone who was in the same position as I was years before. Any kind of mentoring develops understanding, communication skills and you develop a better understanding of the profession." - Alumni Mentor
