We are delighted to share that Evelyn Scott (BA Classical Studies, 2016; MA Classical Art and Archaeology, 2018) has published A Bloody Scandal, a powerful and urgent investigation into medical misogyny and the treatment of women with reproductive health conditions.

front cover of the 'A Bloody Scandal' book

In A Bloody Scandal, Evelyn challenges the deeply ingrained belief that it is normal for women to live in pain. Drawing on her own experience of living with endometriosis, a condition affecting one in ten women, she recounts fifteen years of suffering, dismissal and misdiagnosis while seeking answers from the medical profession.

Combining personal testimony with the stories of women from around the world, A Bloody Scandal examines the medical, political and educational failures that continue to cause preventable harm to women with reproductive conditions. Honest and deeply compassionate, the book is both a powerful critique of broken systems and a call for empathy-led care. Above all, it stands in solidarity with the countless women whose health concerns continue to be overlooked.

Praising the book, Elinor Cleghorn, author of Unwell Women, described it as:

"A powerful and revelatory call-to-arms for compassionate and empathetic health care for all women. Evelyn Scott is an informed and passionate advocate for those affected by medical neglect and diagnostic inequity, and A Bloody Scandal is a change-making book; moving, furious and full of hope."
