Who we are and how to contact us

Royal Holloway is more than a university on the hill in Egham. We are part of the local community, and the people leading this work are here to listen, connect, and collaborate.

Our Engagement and Place team brings together colleagues from across the university who care about how Royal Holloway works with its neighbours, local organisations, and wider partners.

  • Minna Ruohonen: Head of Engagement and Place. Minna leads the university’s civic engagement work, including the Civic Agreement for Surrey and the NCCPE Engage Watermark
  • Helen Groenendaal: Director of Student Life. Helen works closely on student experience and local community relations
  • Mike Berry: Director of Estates. Mike oversees the development and management of the campus estate, including how it relates to local neighbourhoods.
  • Mark Berry: Head of Sustainability. Mark leads on environmental sustainability across the university, working on issues that connect with the wider community.
  • Gina da Silva: Head of Widening Access and Participation. Gina focuses on access to higher education for schools and young people in the region.

Together, we are responsible for making sure Royal Holloway’s RH2030s vision of being a university of social purpose is lived out in practical ways - through education, research, volunteering, culture, and local partnerships.

Our work is guided by the values of being Respectful, Innovative, Daring, and Open. These values shape how we connect with communities, whether in Egham and Englefield Green, across Surrey, or in our London networks.
