Professor Williams will reflect on her remarkable career as a historian of powerful women rom Hatshepsut and Cleopatra, through to Tudor queens Catherine of Aragon and Lady Jane Grey, via Queen Victoria's contemporaries Yaa Asentewaa of Ghana and Queen Lili'oukulani of Hawaii, and the powerful women of our own day.

Historian and novelist Kate Williams is Professor of Public Engagement with History at the University of Reading. She specialises in social, constitutional, and royal history, and is widely acclaimed for her engaging biographies and media work, including Rival Queens, a study of Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots, and Regina: A New History of Women and Power (Orion, 2026).
