In light of the current situation in the Middle East, we’re aware that some students wishing to start their course in the academic year 2026/27 may experience disruptions to formal examinations, including cancellations or interruptions.
We recognise this may affect prospective undergraduates, postgraduate taught and research students. At Royal Holloway we’re committed to supporting you during this challenging time.
For guidance or support related to your circumstances, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our International Advice or Admissions teams.
If your exams have been cancelled and you still expect to receive final grades
If your exams have been cancelled but your awarding body still intends to issue final grades, in light of the ongoing situation, Royal Holloway will honour your offer and accept the grades once officially confirmed.
In most cases, students are expected to receive their final grades within the usual timeframe, and we therefore anticipate minimal impact on student visa applications during the summer period.
If you have questions about how your grades will be determined, please contact your school, college, or awarding body directly for further information.
If your exams have been cancelled and you do not expect to receive final grades
If your exams have been cancelled and you don’t expect to receive final grades this summer, please contact us as soon as possible with details of your application and circumstances. We will review each case individually and provide further guidance and advice.
If your exams are still expected to take place and you do not meet your offer
If you do not meet the conditions of your offer, this does not automatically mean your application will be unsuccessful. Royal Holloway doesn’t normally lower offer conditions due to mitigating circumstances in advance of results being released. However, if you narrowly miss your offer conditions because of circumstances beyond your control, such as the current situation, your case may be considered through our Extenuating Circumstances procedure.
Please contact the Admissions team with your UCAS and Royal Holloway ID number as soon as possible, outlining your circumstances. We will take this information into account when considering your application during the confirmation period in the summer.
Our priority is to ensure that all students joining Royal Holloway are prepared for their studies. While flexibility cannot be guaranteed in very case, extenuating circumstances will be considered carefully and sympathetically.
