Study abroad

We have a well-established Study Abroad programme for international students who would like to spend a full academic year or a term at Royal Holloway.

You can look forward to studying at one of the UK's top research-led universities in a friendly, supportive environment. Our beautiful campus is set in 135 acres of parkland and is just 19 miles from central London on a direct rail link. Our proximity to Heathrow means you also have  easy access to the rest of Europe.

How long can I join you for?

You can join us for a period ranging from 12 to 38 weeks. There are three options open to you:

  • Autumn term (September to December)
  • Spring and Summer terms (January to June)
  • The full academic year (September to June).

What can I study?

You can choose from courses in all three of our faculties:  Arts and Social Sciences; Management and Economics; and Science. See Choose your course.

What about accommodation?

As a Study Abroad student (this includes Masters students), you are guaranteed campus accommodation, provided you apply before the deadline. You have two options:

  • Self-catering accommodation. You’ll have the use of a shared kitchen so you can cook your own meals.
  • Catered accommodation, with meals provided on a pay-as-you-go basis. If you choose catered accommodation, you’ll receive a College card entitling you to a discount of about 50 per cent. Catered Halls have small pantries so you can prepare hot drinks and snacks.

All rooms have internet access and most are single-occupancy. Many have their own en-suite shower room. See our accommodation pages for more information. For accommodation queries, email: studentaccommodation@rhul.ac.uk.

How much does Study Abroad cost?

Fees vary depending on how long you want to study here and whether you’re from one of our partner universities. Your tuition fee will include cultural visits including trips to London and local attractions such as Windsor Castle. See Fees, funding and costs.

How do I apply?

To apply for a Study Abroad programme, follow our step-by-step guide.
