Frequently asked questions

Please see below some frequently asked questions about the fee for Home undergraduate students for September 2026.

In November 2025 the UK Government confirmed that the amount that universities can charge for ‘Home’ students starting undergraduate courses in September 2026 would increase, in line with inflation, and this has now been confirmed. This means that most universities in England will be increasing their fees, as we are doing at Royal Holloway. The increase does not affect International students. The Government has made this change to help higher education providers manage their financial challenges and focus on their core mission of providing outstanding educational outcomes for their students.

The fee rise applies to ‘Home’ students on all undergraduate courses starting in September 2026, including some Foundation Year courses.

For selected ‘classroom-based’ Foundation Year course, the fee that can be charged for the Foundation Year element of degrees in some subjects is lower, and will remain at 2025/26 levels. Please check the coursefinder entry for your subject (or the confirmation email you have received from us, if you are already holding an offer), as different Foundation Year courses now have different fees. When you have completed your Foundation Year and move into the main degree in 2027/28, your fee will be the same as the (higher) standard undergraduate fee for that year (which has not yet been set).

No, you will still need to apply to Student Finance in the same way and the increased fee level will automatically be applied, based on the information you give.

Our advice remains the same – we recommend that you apply to Student Finance as soon as possible once it opens for applications. For 2026 applications this is on 23 March 2026.

Yes, nothing about your course is changing as a result of this fee increase. If there are any further changes to your course, we will let you know as soon as we can, as described in our terms and conditions.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to do anything. Just make sure you apply to Student Finance early so that you receive your payments as efficiently as possible.

We’re committed to making your time at Royal Holloway as fulfilling as possible – providing you with excellent teaching, facilities, and support, and helping you to manage the ‘cost of learning’. Financial advice and help is just one way that we support our students.Find out more
